Effects of Mechanical Pumping on the Arterial Pulse Wave Velocity : Peripheral Artery and Micro-vessels
نویسندگان
چکیده
We studied the effect of mechanical pumping on the response of peripheral arteries by focusing on the pulse wave velocity (PWV) in large arterial conduit and micro-vessels. The pressure waveforms were measured simultaneously at the brachial artery (BA), radial artery (RA) and finger. Impulse pumping was operated by alternatively adding 80mmHg pressure to the arm of normal subjects (N=10) in 3 second and relaxing to 0mmHg in 7 second for a period of 15 minutes. After pumping the segmental arterial PWV from BA to finger decreases due to the action of the change in endothelial relaxing factor. However, we find the decrease in PWV from BA to finger after pumping was contributed from the results of BA-RA, the PWV for the micro-vessels (BA-finger) on the contrary was increased. Arterial Stiffness and its Correlation with the Extent of Coronary Artery Disease
Introduction: Coronary artery disease secondary to atherosclerosis is the most common cause of mortality. Coronary angiography is the most precise method for determining the extent of disease in the coronary vascular bed. Arterial stiffness has been proposed as a marker of atherosclerosis in some studies. One of the noninvasive methods for the determination of arterial stiffness is Doppler echo...
متن کاملBlood Vessels Distal Shift of Arterial Pressure Wave Reflection Sites With Aging
An early return of reflected waves, the backward propagation of the arterial pressure wave from the periphery to the heart, is associated with the augmentation of central pulse pressure and cardiovascular risks. The locations of arterial pressure wave reflection, along with arterial stiffening, have a major influence on the timing of the reflected wave. To determine the influence of aging on th...
متن کاملPiezoelectric sensor determination of arterial pulse wave velocity.
Arterial pulse wave velocity (APWV) is a measure of the elasticity (or stiffness) of peripheral arterial blood vessels. The pulse referred to here will be the pressure pulse as opposed to the flow pulse measured by ultrasound Doppler. The pressure pulse velocity varies over the range from about 12 m s(-1) to 15 m s(-1) in stiff peripheral arteries, whereas in normal arteries it has a velocity i...
متن کاملRegulation of vascular tone and pulse wave velocity in human muscular conduit arteries: selective effects of nitric oxide donors to dilate muscular arteries relative to resistance vessels.
Arterial tone in muscular conduit arteries may influence pressure wave reflection through changes in diameter and pulse wave velocity. We examined the relative specificity of vasodilator drugs for radial artery and forearm resistance vessels during intrabrachial arterial infusion. The nitric oxide (NO) donors, nitroglycerine and nitroprusside, and brain natriuretic peptide were compared with th...

Background & Objective : Several indices have been introduced to estimate arterial stiffness that based on changes in brachial blood pressure. But because of the error resulted by the substitution of brachial blood pressure instead of the other central arteries, such as carotid, it will be very important to present elastic parameter based on the mechanical models without any emphasis on brach...
